These pieces are Illuminated Clay employed as a vehicle for lighting.  Since the highly translucent clay will slump significantly in the fire, these pieces required a refractory form to support them in the fire.  When first producing this work I had hopes that I could sell it commercially and even went so far as to get UL certification.  However the fragile nature of the work made it impractical for most applications.
